Hidden From Daylight
By Nathaniel Goldberg
Copyright 2000 Nathaniel Goldberg
A poem about a vampire at night.

Under the cover of darkness
I emerge like a chrysalis
from its cocoon.
I have hidden
the many long hours of daylight
waiting for the night to come and
once again slip to my beauty's side.
I watch her perfect teeth
move through laughter,
The smoothness of the veins along her neck
pulse as my teeth dig in reopening
two small holes in her flesh.
She speaks to me in whispers of
times gone by
when she was young and innocent,
while I drink of her life
until her body goes limp
when breath comes deep
and dreams come soft.
