 Luna

By Charlotte Wald
Copyright 1999 Charlotte Wald

A poem about Charlotte's life being like the moon.

As the moon wanes
So does my life.

Each night as I gaze
At that glorious orb
Up high in the firmament
I wonder as it starts
Its mysterious odyssey behind the earth
When starshine is all we see.

Is there a life on the dark side?
A place we do not know?
A place forbidden
To those of us below?

And then, and then, I wait
For soon it appears again
At first a sliver glowing
Against the blue-black sky,
Gradually growing in intensity
Until it achieves
Its full round beauty once more.

As the moon waxes
So does my life.
